Nature Day at the 12,000 Year History Park

April 7, 2018 @ 12:30 pm - 4:00 pm

MMNA is helping to put on a Nature Discovery Walk on April 7th from 1-4pm at the 12,000 Year History Park.  The idea is that visitors to the park will pick up a map showing them stations at various places along the trail to learn about butterflies, reptiles, birds, etc.  You can see a draft map attached to get an idea of how this will work.  Plans are still coming together.  Please consider volunteering in one of these areas.  Here is where we need volunteers (We already have a volunteer at all tables but having a 2nd will help with set up and breaks).
1. Check-in table – 2 volunteers to welcome visitors and give out maps
2. Owls – Dee Dee has the materials
3. Bird table – There will be a small game for kids to put the bird in their correct time of year at the park.  (Answers provided for you!)
3. Animal tracks – we are going to try to bait an area to pick up animal tracks overnight.  Need volunteers to talk to the public about the tracks
4. Native plants/Wildflowers – Need a volunteer or two to staff the table; we are getting a sign made of common wildflowers seen at the park by season;
5. Moths – We created some really cool materials for Moth Night last year. Stand with this table and talk to the public a little bit about moths.
6  Fungi – Set up in an area where there is a lot of fungi; talk about the different kinds found in the park and help kids examine what is right around
7. Community Science – talk about apps like iNaturalist or efforts like Frog Watch.  provide some information on how to get involved that they can take home.
GENERAL SETUP/ASSISTANCE – the park has offered to open barriers so we can drive in and can provide a golf cart to get materials in place.  Most of this will be 12-1pm and then take down 4-5pm.  Help would be appreciated.
Contact Hilda to sign up for any of these areas.
